In middle school,
I read "War and Peace"
And skipped all the boring parts
About peace and sad parts
About war as well.
In high school,
I read "Anna Karenina"
And skipped all about her
And Vronsky too
Because I liked
Kitty and Levin more.
I college I read
"The Magic Mountain"
And skipped the big fight
Between Naphta and Settembrini
Because the very same fight
Ripped my family apart.
Now I don't skip;
Books like "Metamorphosis",
"Heart of Darkness", "1984"
need to be read
like airline safety cards.
