Dog Shrink

The dog shrink insisted
On bringing the offending animal with us.

In her office,
She said she hoped
We wouldn't mind
That she would be wearing a ski mask--
Apparently, she was allergic to dogs.

The dog growled at her,
I felt like growling too.

What she told us we already knew:

The dog was old,
The dog had bossed the household her whole life.
The dog won't be able to change now just because there was a new baby around.

We had to choose.

Years later,
That baby younger sister
Told us we should have kept the dog.
